What we test

Submersible turbine sump (STP) containment. Dispenser sump (UDC) containment. Transition sumps where piping changes from aboveground to underground or single-wall to double-wall.

Method

How we run it.

Hydrostatic testing follows PEI RP1200 section 6.5. The technician removes debris from the sump and inspects for visible damage. Water is added until it covers the highest penetration by at least 4 inches, or to within 1 inch of the top, whichever is lower. After a 15-minute settle, the initial water level is measured; after 1 hour, the ending water level is measured. The sump passes if the level changes less than 1/8 inch in 1 hour.

DriSump is a completely different methodology from hydrostatic. DriSump testing requires installation as a first step: probes are drilled into the concrete around the sump and capped off. This is done for every dispenser and every tank in the area.

Once installed, the test itself is fast. A 5-minute vapor test reads whether there is any leak in the containment. The probe network detects vapor leakage that would otherwise require draining and refilling the sump with water.

What is the difference between hydrostatic and DriSump methods?

Hydrostatic testing fills the sump with water and measures the level over an hour. DriSump is a vapor method: probes are drilled into the concrete around the sump once, then a 5-minute vapor test reads whether containment is leaking, with no water to add or remove. PTTI runs both.
